Filing into Black Rock City, in the swirling white-out playa dust storm, my van was flagged to halt by the gatekeeper to Black Rock City. She was kind of a hippee girl, a young vivacious woman with braids and beads and a big smile. After checking my ticket and checking that I was the only person in the van inspecting the back and side doors of my van. She then asked if this was first time to the "Burn". I said yes, She then asked me to shut off the engine to my van and step out of the vehicle. Uh oh, that was a surprise, was I in trouble? 

"Welcome Home!" She exclaimed as she threw her arms around me and gave me a big heartfelt hug! So began my "Burn".

Adelina-Burning Man 2022 0277-Aug 29 2022A friendly face on the Playa, "Adelina" as I recall. A psychic had told her mother that she was having a daughter who wanted to be called Adelina. The confidence is clear.
How do you describe Burning Man to someone who has not been to Burning Man? Surprisingly I found myself defending BM against many of the myths and stereotypes that get applied to make our lives simple. Right away everyone thinks it's a wild drug party in the desert with naked people running around. I won;t deny that there are elements of truth too, to many of the rumors and myths, it is not that simple to describe the experience of Burning Man.
