When you have a beautiful clear day and an opportunity go out to the Pt. Reyes Lighthouse, do it!
The National Parks Service runs the lighthouse and it is open Thursday through Sunday each week.
The light is fairly small but it is surrounded by dozens of prisms, each angles to focus the light to the horizon, making the light effectively much larger, and visible 24 miles away. The smaller replacement light is only visible 14 miles away.
Parts of the Pt. Reyes Peninsula are protected rangeland for native Elk.
A view from the walk up to and back from the Lighthouse is miles of beach with sets of waves breaking.
It is a bucolic drive through windy roads and old dairy farms to get to the Lighthouse, time well spent.
